PlantGang is excited to invite you to its first community driven scanning competition! Launching on Thursday the 8th of December and running for two weeks until 22/12/22, we’re challenging community members to head out into nature and produce some botanical 3D specimen scans, even collecting some basic scientific data along the way!
This is a quest for beginners, and there will be guidance for getting started with scanning and data collection, with great results possible with just a smartphone. So we’d love to see you become a citizen scientist bringing nature on chain!
Prizes are available for participants and top scanners! 🎉
Why we make scientific 3D-model specimens?
PlantGang is using 3D scanning technology to create photorealistic 3D model specimens stored on chain.
Unlike traditionally-stored 2D pressed specimens, our models show crucial details of morphology and colouration. Additionally, scientific metadata is collected with each specimen grounding them in reality for use in research and education.
Now we want you to join this mission as ‘citizen scientist’ scanners!

How do I get started?
In order to become citizen scientists you will record a video your plant specimen and send your video recording and basic data to PlantGang who will process it into a unique 3D-model specimen card for you to submit!
